the perfectly round pumpkin

pumpkin1-aug20

She grew in our garden, hidden beneath a canopy of leaves.
So hidden that we did not see to turn her.
And yet, she’s so round and perfect.
This was two days ago and already, she’s turning orange.
Will she last until October? I do hope so…
I’ve read that she needs air circulation and not too much sun.
Here’s hoping we can carve her this autumn…
Two months until Halloween…yikes!

as I picked weeds

weeding the big garden tonight

and trying to remember why I read

that one shouldn’t weed just after it rains.

the weeds come out much more easily this way.

(this, by the way, is the patch we have at my Aunt’s place, in the country.)

Yes, we are ready to welcome the warmer weather season.

You Can’t Trick Us

How do you like our egg family? This is an image from a little photo project.

Good ice breaker maybe?

So it’s been two months (and a day) since I have posted.  That is certainly my longest break.  Some of you emailed or called to check-in. And yes, everything is fiiiiine.

I have been rolling around ideas of a big revamp and refocus. And while it is not yet done, we decided that it is time to roll out with the new look and work on filling in the pages (and fine-tuning the images) as we go.  Otherwise, a two-month hiatus could turn even longer.

What have we done in the last two months since the Moab post?

Some of you fantasized that we magically stayed put right there in Utah.

Nope. (But don’t think the thought hasn’t crossed our minds…)

Less excitingly, we returned to Michigan and found that winter was still going strong.  In fact, snow stuck to the ground at the end of April. (!) So we planned for spring, began to plant things and work through ideas. Gradually, spring is arriving…

We have taken pictures and are working on new ideas… spruced up our bikes…and spent time with family.  I am writing this from a brief trip we are taking to Philadelphia- we drove my sister back after Easter and found that we have some plumbing things to repair.

So I will be easing back into this space. How about a quick photo-essay of the past 2 months and we’ll consider ourselves caught up for now?

We went to Chicago (a few weekends ago)

Greetings! First- I updated my previous chalk wall post. Please take a look if you’re thinking about making a chalk wall. We will be repainting ours with a deeper color.

Next item of business: I was sifting through pictures from the last week and would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to mention a fun weekend trip that we took. (I should mention it now, before getting into the next longer adventure that we’ll soon be taking).

So yes, we went to Chicago. Glad that it was then and not now, with the mountains of snow I believe they’re still clearing. It was a last minute trip in which I kindly asked my Aunt if we could interrupt her long weekend by filling her house and letting her bake treats. She said yes, probably because the girls are so sweet.

Ryan’s sister, fondly known by children as The Singing Lizard, was on a Midwest tour with her band, The Pushovers. So we got to meet her bandmates, and my aunt babysat so we could attend their concert. The girls also got plenty of play time with both aunts, as Aunt Jan let Aunt Liz spend the night too.

Oh and yes, we were spoiled by sweets, family meals, and mmmm did I mention the brownies?
Thanks Aunt!
