Quotable Sunday: Louis Armstrong

“Never play a thing the same way twice.” -Louis Armstrong

(Phone Picture- there’s probably much better ones on my camera to replace this one later. )

I like that quote. As someone who does not seem to thrive on deep-seeded routine, it fits me well.

While in New Orleans, we were sure to visit the Louis Armstrong Park as well as the US National Park sites (Jazz Historical Park and Jean Lafitte Historical Park). The girls enjoyed these parks thanks to the music streaming through our speakers. We also listened to Mary Pope Osborn’s book about young Louis Armstrong and New Orleans.

At any rate, we found ourselves practically the only people in the park and made a little picnic by this statue. It was a nice quiet spot away from Mardi Gras crazy so we soaked in the music and it soaked in us.

We’re past New Orleans now. We decided it best to leave the busiest days of party to the locals. But I’ll have to write more about our wonderful time there. Meanwhile, we’re headed to Oxford Mississippi to see a little, walk a little, and eat a little.

Happy Sunday to you and yours–

ps: feel free to share your Quotable Sunday links on this post. :-)

Happy Friday!

Another Sign

Our return to Michigan is within the 15-day forecast. Meanwhile, outside of New Orleans it’s 70 and swampy. So I think I’ll enjoy a few more days of signs not usually seen at home.

And then there’s this.

I’ve been seeing this hat and sign down here in Bayou country.

Um…
Is there an equivalent saying north of the Mason-Dixon line that I’ve overlooked all this time?
